SBM1 MODE OF THE RPW/SOLAR ORBITER INSTRUMENT AS A PATHFINDER OF SOLAR WIND IRREGULARITIES IN THE INTERPLANETARY SPACE
Discontinuities and irregularities in large-scale solar wind (SW) structures are one of the main sources of disturbances that are transferred from the Sun to the Earth's magnetosphere and cause various space weather phenomena. The paper analyzes the possibility of using SBM1 trigger events of the RPW instrument of the Solar Orbiter space mission as markers of the presence of compression regions and other irregularities in the SW streams. Using examples, it is shown that multiple SBM1 trigger events over an interval of up to four hours show the fine structure of large-scale variations in the SW parameters, and such trigger events can be used as a marker of the spacecraft location in the compression region.
