Combating Misinformation with NLP: Advances in Fake News Detection

The sudden dissemination of misinformation in social media has also been a pressing concern, triggering public confusion, socio-political impacts, and the spread of misinformation. An effective way of detecting and inhibiting fake news must be implemented with the application of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML). This paper introduces an integrated framework that merges blockchain technology with NLP-based machine learning methods to strengthen fake news detection and enhance identification of fake user accounts and deceptive posts. Reinforcement Learning is used to optimize classification models to achieve improved prediction accuracy. Different text representation methods, such as TF-IDF, Bag-of-Words, and sophisticated word embed dings like GloVe and Word2Vec, are investigated to train models for detecting fake news. In addition, Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks are also used to examine political news datasets and show better performance in identifying fake and actual news. Performance assessment based on precision, recall, and F1-score measures indicates the supremacy of deep learning models compared to conventional ML classifiers. Future development involves incorporating multimodal analysis including images, videos, and metadata like author credibility and publisher reputation to further optimize fake news detection systems.
