Minimizing Power Loss by Lowering the Decline Rate of Refractive Index in Optical Fiber Communication
The refractive index is a crucial parameter for photonic materials, playing a significant role in both engineering applications and research. In optical fibers, heat treatment has a notable impact on the refractive index, which in turn affects light propagation. Variations in refractive index lead to light scattering, making it essential to understand its interrelationship with other influencing factors. Accurate measurement of the refractive index alone is insufficient to mitigate power loss; instead, analyzing its correlation with additional parameters is vital. Since refractive index fluctuations are influenced by local molecular density, they provide insights into structural characteristics, such as microstructured biological tissues. This study explores the relationship between temperature applied to optical fiber, power loss, and the refractive index of single-mode fiber (SMF). Experimental findings confirm that heating leads to an increase in power loss while simultaneously reducing the refractive index.
