(wl-4872)-A Spatio-temporal Analysis of Dowry Crimes in India
The custom of dowry is deeply rooted in Indian society, and dowry crimes are distributed all over the country. This study indicates that dowry deaths remained almost stable during the 21st Century, but incidents of violation of DPA have increased gradually. UP and Bihar emerged as the hot spots of dowry deaths in India, and the majority of districts having higher incidents of dowry deaths are located in these two states. Higher incidents of dowry deaths are also registered in north Indian metropolitan cities. The study highlights that 93.8% of cases of dowry deaths and 92.2% of cases of violation of DPA are pending in the judiciary.
