World Languages and World Literature: Toward a Reciprocal Pedagogy

Abstract: This article describes a team-taught hybrid course in world languages and world literature which illustrates the virtues of a reciprocal pedagogy in which linguistics is taught through literature and literature through linguistics, specifically, linguistic and literary stylistics. Adopting Erich Auerbach’s notion of an Ansatzpunkt as a heuristic, we explain how disciplinary reciprocity between linguistics and literary study animates pedagogical reciprocity between the two disciplines.
