The Inflammatory Enigma: A Case Report of Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor with Unusual Presentation
Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare benign soft-tissue neoplasm occurring in less than one in one million people with intermediate potential and a low risk of recurrence. IMTs are most often found in abdominal structures like the mesentery and retroperitoneum, followed by the lungs and genitourinary tract. Uncommon locations include the pancreas, liver, and central nervous system. The nonspecific radiological imaging features of IMT can be confusing and hence the definite diagnosis relies on histopathological and immunohistochemistry examination of surgically resected specimens, here we present a case of IMT over the left thigh region in a 5 years old male child who presented as dermatofibrosarcoma protuberance (DFSP) clinically and as infantile hemangioma radiologically.
