A Siting Method of Grid-Forming Energy Storage Plants Based on Small-Signal Stability of Power System
Currently, there is no clear and common reference standard for the siting of grid-forming energy storage power plants. In order to analyze the stability of the system when a gridforming converter is connected to a complex grid, this paper analyzes the changes in the power system poles after a new device is connected to an existing grid at different bus based on impedance models. The analysis results show that if the power flow does not change so much that the impedance model of the main active devices in the system almost unchanged, then the original poles of the system are almost unchanged, and the new poles of the system are determined by the characteristics of the new devices connected to the system. This means that the original instability in the system is difficult to eliminate without large-scale changes in the system power flow. In this case, the new poles determined by the new devices can be used as one of the bases for site selection. In this paper, simulations are also performed in the IEEE 14 bus system for verification.
