An Isolated Multiport Modular Multilevel DC-DC Converter for Electric Vehicle Fast-Charging Station

This paper proposes a triple-output isolated DCDC converter for electric vehicle applications. The proposed converter is a combination of a modular multi-level converter (MMC) and a dual active bridge (DAB) DC-DC converter, inheriting both features, such as fault tolerance and high input voltage operation. The proposed structure benefits from the lower number of power switches compared to others presented in detail in this study, while maintaining their advantages. Each output is isolated from the others, making it suitable for EV fast charging station applications. Accordingly, phase shift modulation is used to generate the required gate pulses. The algorithm corresponding to the voltage balance of the submodules' capacitors is then presented. MATLAB Simulink is utilized to present the simulation results to verify the performance of the proposed converter.
