Rewall: An RFID-based early water leak detection and localization method

The integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) with sensing technologies represents a significant transformation in contemporary information technology and substantially advances the evolution of intelligent management. Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, a fundamental element of the IoT, plays a progressively significant role in wireless sensing due to its unique advantages. The backscattered signal of the passive ultra-high frequency (UHF) RFID tag is significantly affected by the liquid surroundings, allowing the tag to function as a sensor for monitoring changes in water levels. This paper introduces Rewall, an RFID-based Early Water Leak detection and Localization method. Rewall identifies water leaks by using signal fluctuations to locate outliers, even in a densely deployed environment. The experimental findings indicate that Rewall exhibits excellent efficiency and accuracy in the early detection of water level changes, making it an effective technical solution for the early detection of water leaks.
