Demonstration of Comparative Evaluation Platform of 690 V-4160 V Power Converters

Increasing operating voltage from low voltage to medium voltage benefits the wind turbine system with costeffective system implementation and high power conversion efficiency. To acknowledge the medium voltage wind turbine specification, this paper presents a SiC MOSFET-based platform to evaluate the performance of newly developed 10 kV SiC MOSFETs at the system level. A power circulation system is designed, containing a line-side converter, a medium-voltage machine drive, and a commercial low-voltage machine drive. The test platform is designed with considerations on high switching <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathrm{d} v / \mathrm{d} t$</tex>, immunity of disturbance from the power stage to signal circuit, and power conversion efficiency. Finally, the functionality of all three converters in the power circulation system have been demonstrated and qualified, allowing for a comparative evaluation for medium-voltage power converters based on 10 kV SiC MOSFETs.
