Sumpay: Davao International Airport Interchange Transit: Embracing Critical Regionalism for Enhancing Airport Connectivity and Last Mile Accessibility Through Multi-Modal Design
Sumpay, which means connection in the Bisaya dialect, represents the proposed Davao International Airport Interchange Transit project which aims to enhance last-mile connectivity for passengers by addressing the transportation gap between the airport and final destinations. This project proposes a multimodal interchange system that integrates transit-to-airplane solutions tailored to the time-sensitive nature of air travel. By emphasizing critical regionalism, the design respects the local cultural and environmental context, aligning with the area's unique identity. A central terminal within the airport will address the sloped terrain between the entrance and gates, improving passenger flow and promoting economic growth through upgraded infrastructure, tourism, and business activities. The integration of cultural regionalism creates a sense of place, enhancing passenger experience and accessibility over time. This project seeks to improve convenience, sustainable mobility, and overall connectivity at Davao International Airport, fostering economic growth and regional identity.
