A Study on Performance Improvement of Saliency-Based Position Sensorless Drive for Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor

This paper presents a study of the control performance improvements over the full output range for the saliency-based position sensorless drive permanent magnet linear synchronous motor. First, the frequency and amplitude of the high-frequency voltage injected for the mover position estimation were investigated to achieve stable position sensorless drive in the high-speed region. Subsequently, the new detector for the position error signal was proposed to improve the control performances over the full output range. The experimental results showed that the stability and thrust characteristics of the position sensorless drive were improved.

Abstract

This paper presents a study of the control performance improvements over the full output range for the saliency-based position sensorless drive permanent magnet linear synchronous motor. First, the frequency and amplitude of the high-frequency voltage injected for the mover position estimation were investigated to achieve stable position sensorless drive in the high-speed region. Subsequently, the new detector for the position error signal was proposed to improve the control performances over the full output range. The experimental results showed that the stability and thrust characteristics of the position sensorless drive were improved.
