Electromagnetic Design of Superconducting Linear Actuators and Magnetic Bearings for Liquid Hydrogen Pumps

In this paper, we perform an electromagnetic field analysis of a linear drive mechanism for a liquid hydrogen pump and design it to meet the requirements. The linear drive mechanism consists of a superconducting linear actuator and a superconducting magnetic bearing. The thrust of the superconducting linear actuator can be improved by changing the current distribution in the coil. In addition, the spring constant of the superconducting magnetic bearing can be improved by configuring a permanent magnet in which the magnetic field on the surface of the superconductor is large. Based on the results of the analysis, we quantitatively investigate these relationships.
