Design of Staggered Electromagnets for Compact 6-DoF Levitated Stage with Transverse Flux Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor

Due to the frictionless properties of the magnetically levitated (Maglev) system, it has great potential for applications that require high acceleration and high speed. This paper presents a novel design for a compact Maglev stage capable of six degrees of freedom (6-DoF) motion control by combining staggered electromagnets with a transverse-flux permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (TF-PMLSM). The levitation system enables the generation of both vertical and lateral forces, allowing for active control of all motion axes without mechanical contact. A one-dimensional analytical model is used to optimize the geometry of the levitation electromagnets for maximum force output, and the accuracy of the model is verified through finite element method (FEM) simulations. The paper also discusses the possibility of minimal actuator configuration between electromagnet, highlighting the potential for system simplification and energy efficiency.
