Flexible Grid-Forming Control Based on Decoupled Structure for PMSG Wind Turbines
Unlike chemical energy-based power sources, the active power output of wind turbines is constrained by factors such as wind speed and turbine conditions. Current grid-forming control strategies predominantly focus on grid-side power demands, which cannot effectively deal with situations like power output limitations, frequency dead zone, and changes in power commands under different wind conditions. This paper proposes a novel grid-forming control method for permanent magnet synchronous generator-based wind turbines (PMSG-WT) that decouples the generation of power reference and the synchronization between the turbine and the utility grid. It effectively accommodates both the dynamic demands of the grid and the intrinsic operational constraints of the wind turbines, without the need of mode switching in control loops. The proposed method is validated through simulations.
