The [(Dpp-BIAN)LnI(Solv)x] Complexes (Ln = Nd, Dy, Tm) and Their Reduction Reactions

The reduction of Dpp-BIAN with neodymium metal in the presence of equimolar amounts of iodine gave the neodymium complex with acenaphthene-1,2-diimine ligand in the dianion form, [(Dpp-BIAN)NdI(DME)2] (I) (Dpp-BIAN is (1,2-bis[(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imino]acenaphthene, DME is dimethoxyethane). The treatment of the complexes [(Dpp-BIAN)LnI(Solv)n] (Solv is ether solvent), (Ln = Nd, Dy, Tm) with solutions of thex [Dpp-BIANK2] molecular iodine resulted in the formation of bis-ligand ate-complexes [(Dpp-BIAN)2Nd][K(Et2O)2.62(THF)0.38]Et2O (II), [(Dpp-BIAN)2Dy][K(DME)4](DME)0.28 (III), and [(Dpp-BIAN)2Tm][K(Et2O)3]Et2O (IV). The reaction of [(Dpp-BIAN)NdI(DME)2] with lithium trimethylsilylamide gave the product [(Dpp-BIAN)2Nd][Li(DME)(Et2O)2] (V). The molecular structure of complexes I–V was established by X-ray diffraction analysis (CCDC no. 2409375 (I), 2409376 (II), 2409377 (III), 2409378 (IV), 2409379 (V)).
