Antibacterial activity of zinc oxide nanoparticles prepared in a biomaterial

Zinc oxide (ZnO) has been of great importance in different application due to its ability to exist in nano size structure. Zinc nitrate and biomaterial (sodium alginate) were employed for the preparation of Zinc oxide nanoparticles (NPs) using simple heat method via green method. The Prepared nanoparticles (NPs) was characterized by using UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transmission infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). The XRD and FESEM studies indicated the presence of a spherical shape with hexagonal edges in the matrix of the prepared zinc oxide nano particle. The UV-Vis spectrum showed a sharp absorption peak at wavelength of 358nm. The FTIR peaks at 300–800cm−1 confirmed formation of the ZnO upon calcination of the precursor at 500oC. The results showed that sodium alginate is a fascinating compound that can be used as a stabilizer for preparation of Zinc oxide nanoparticles with promising antibacterial activity.
