Mentoring Students of Vocational School English Based on Tourism Industry at SMK Negeri Tanjung Palas North Kalimantan

This community service is a form of concern for the lecturers of English Language Education, University of Borneo Tarakan for the response to increase the capacity of English language proficiency of SMK Negeri Tanjung Palas Timur North Kalimantan students in preparing them in the Kalimantan Industrial Park Indonesia region through tourism industry-based English language assistance to empower students of SMK Negeri Tanjung Palas Utara in the Industrial Park and Tourism area of North Kalimantan. This community service is based on the needs of SMK students for adequate English language skills to face the demands of the world of work in the industrial and tourism sectors. The research method used is a qualitative and quantitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, field studies and documentation studies. The results of this Community Service show that English language assistance based on the tourism industry has a positive impact on improving students' English language skills, especially in terms of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. In addition, this program also increases students' confidence in communicating using English, and broadens their horizons about the world of industry and tourism. This research recommends the need for the sustainability of the tourism industry-based English language mentoring program at SMK Negeri Tanjung Palas Utara and other schools in the North Kalimantan Industrial Park and Tourism area. This program is expected to be a model of empowering SMK students to improve their competitiveness in the world of work.
