Formulation and Evaluation of RubiaCordifolia (Manjistha) Lip Balm

The main objective of the present study is to prepare and evaluate the manjishta lip balm and determine the physicochemical function that emphasis on safety, efficacy and quality of the product. Lip balm is a topical moisturizer that resembles wax applied to the lips. Lip balms are intended to keep lips from drying out and chapping while shielding them from the elements, such as the winter's cold. Keeping the lips protected helps to avoid discomfort and infection. The main ingredient in the study is Rubiacordifolia which have anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, anti-bacterial and radio protective action. It is also used as a natural coloring agent. Other ingredients used are bees wax, cocoa butter, coconut oil, castor oil, almond oil, rose oil and vitamin E. The majority of the existing lip balms are prepared from drugs of synthetic origin which has several side effects. Eight formulations were prepared and subjected to evaluation of its organoleptic properties, pH, skin irritation test, fragrance stability, spreadability and stability studies. By comparing the evaluation test results of eight formulations, the project aims to spot appropriate one best formulation .The stability studies indicated that prepared manjishta lip balm was stable throughout the studies. The selected best formulation of manjishta lip balm was compared with a manjishta lip balm available in market. The findings of the study will contribute to the development of manjishta lip balm with minimal side effects using natural ingredients in formulation.
