Research on Urban and Rural Land Use Planning Based on Multi Objective Optimization Algorithm
In urban and rural set-ups, land use optimization is a promising approach to achieve sustainability. Despite having an increasing number of literature research on land use optimization, a multiple objective optimization approach is demonstrated in this paper. This model is applied to the land use planning for urban and rural areas for the Chengdu Plain in Sichuan Province of China. Applying NSGA-II with GIS data, the goal of the study is to achieve an optimal distribution of land use for economic development while minimizing the negative impact on the environment. The model was also tested on different aspects such as economic, environmental, and the combined aspect. The outcomes show that the model can be used to produce the best solutions for land use that takes into account various conflicting objectives. The results of the model are validated by historical data and experts’ opinions, which proves the efficiency and effectiveness of the model. This paper shows the benefits of employing high-level computational methods in land use planning compared to traditional approaches, but also shows limitations like data and resource demands. The findings of this study can be of considerable interest to policymakers who are in a process of elaborating long-term land use management in the areas experiencing fast urbanization.
