Design of a New High-Gain Non-Isolated DC-DC Converter Using Single Switch for Electric Vehicle Battery Charging

This article deals with a new quadratic gain DC-DC converter for electric vehicle battery charging. The proposed converter is capable of producing a higher output voltage, i.e., 8 times the input voltage, when it is operated at a duty ratio of 0.5. Due to the minimal number of component counts with higher voltage gain, it can be deployed in electric vehicle onboard chargers. The mathematical equations are derived to design the passive components, along with voltage stress, current stress and state-space equation. Comparisons with different parameters are made to showcase the superior features of the proposed converter with recently developed converters. A MATLAB-SIMULINK model is developed to verify the proposed converter operation. In addition, the proposed converter is integrated with a battery and the charging characteristic is verified with two different state-of-charge conditions.
