Cybersecurity in Electric Vehicle Infrastructure and the Impacts of Post-Quantum Encryption

The use of electric vehicles (EV) is steadily increasing worldwide. Due to their integration with internet-connected systems, these vehicles can become targets for cyber attackers. Among the primary methods for ensuring robust protection of interconnected and communicating systems against cyber threats are encryption techniques. This study provides a detailed examination of cybersecurity in electric vehicle infrastructure and comprehensively explores the impact of encryption methods on ensuring cybersecurity based on existing literature. The security measures of protocols within the electric vehicle infrastructure and the cyber threats targeting this structure are explained. The study also presents the working principles of existing encryption methods used in electric vehicle infrastructure and compares them with one another. Furthermore, in contrast to conventional encryption techniques, the potential impacts of post-quantum encryption methods on electric vehicle infrastructure are examined within a conceptual framework. In the event of the widespread adoption of post-quantum computers, the importance of developing post-quantum encryption methods to enhance the security of electric vehicle infrastructure is emphasized. This study aims to provide guidance for researchers working in this field and offer theoretical contributions to future studies.
