Effects of Single‐Walled Carbon Nanotubes on the Performance of Fluororubber Containing Carbon Black/Silica Hybrid Filler

ABSTRACT This work investigates the role of different loadings of single‐walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) in a carbon black (CB)/silica‐filled FKM system. By constructing a dense and stable filler network, we explore the curing characteristics of the hybrid filler in FKM, as well as its tensile and tear properties at various temperatures, wear resistance, and compression set. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to analyze the dispersion of SWCNTs in the FKM matrix. The results show that increasing the SWCNTs content leads to a higher crosslink density of the compound and a longer optimum cure time. When the SWCNTs loading is 2 phr, the room‐temperature tensile strength improves by 90% and the tear strength by 105% relative to the control without SWCNTs. The tensile strength at high temperature also exceeds that of the control. Elongation at break peaks at 1.5 phr SWCNTs. Wear resistance improves markedly but stabilizes at higher loadings. The compression set decreases with SWCNTs incorporation up to 1.5 phr, beyond which filler agglomeration increases permanent deformation. Additionally, SWCNTs impart excellent electrical performance to the FKM composites, further expanding their performance and application range.
