Modern research practices in PhD dissertations and official reviews of them: scientific and educational content and criticism

The purpose of this study is to obtain new scientific knowledge about current scientific areas of domestic theoretical, applied and comparative linguistics using the example of a review of 24 candidate dissertations defended in the 1st quarter of 2025 and official reviews of them. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that the article summarizes critical comments from reviews of official opponents and leading organizations on candidate dissertations defended in the first quarter of 2025 in the scientific specialty 5.9.8., and identifies technical errors made by applicants in two sections of dissertations and abstracts “approval of research results” and “list of published works on the research topic”. As a result, current research directions in scientific specialty 5.9.8. and critical comments on defended candidate dissertations were identified, the frequency of participation of candidate-linguists in scientific and practical events was established, and the technical errors made by applicants when presenting data on the testing of their scientific research in the text of the dissertation and abstract were systematized. This information may be useful in preparing the text of the dissertation by applicants for the academic degree of candidate and doctor of philological sciences and in planning their participation in specialized conferences on linguistics.
