Take proactive steps to prevent, address hazing
Within the college sports world, hazing has traditionally been viewed as a rite of passage, a way of indoctrinating the newer team members into the so‐called club. However, hazing is a form of abuse that's typically perpetrated by the older, more experienced student‐athletes, and sometimes the coaching staff, to humiliate newer and younger teammates in front of their peers. It's actually bullying that takes advantage of the inherent power dynamic between the upper‐class student‐athletes and the freshmen, together with others on the team who are perceived as having a “lower social status.”
