The Shear Strength Behavior of Cement Stabilized Sand
In order to investigate the effect of cement on the behavior of a cemented soil, an experimental study was carried out. A series of Unconfined Compression Strength Tests (UCST) was performed on previously compacted of stabilized soil samples. The direct shear test was used to determine the shear strength parameters C and Ø of a series of samples with different cement content. Samples stabilized with a certain percentage of cement showed a substantial gain in compressive strength and a significant increase in shear strength parameters (C and Ø). In the second part of this work an analysis of the behaviour of a sheet pile supporting the walls of a deep excavation, has been carried out. The results obtained from the experimental investigation were used in a finite element simulation using commercial software [Plaxis]. Mohr-Coulomb model was used.
