An L-band relativistic magnetron with angular slot radial output

In this article, an L-band relativistic magnetron with angular slot radial output is proposed and investigated numerically. Angular slot radial output structure is separated axially from the resonant cavity region in this configuration. This permits a magnetic field-producing system to be situated externally to the resonance chamber, which has the effect of reducing the overall volume and weight of the whole system to a considerable extent. High-frequency analysis demonstrates that this output structure excites fundamental RF modes in rectangular waveguide with high efficiency without affecting the symmetry of the interaction region. The results in particle-in-cell simulation demonstrate that microwave power of 1.93 GW, power conversion efficiency of 52.7%, and frequency of 1.83 GHz can be achieved with a uniform magnetic field of 0.34 T and a voltage of 610 kV.
