Effectivity of Flex Developer Placement in Class II Skeletal Malocclusion Corrections in Growing Patient
Background: Class II malocclusion is the most prevalent malocclusion in growing individuals, with retrognathic mandible being the primary etiology. Fixed functional appliances (FFAs) are one of the treatment modalities. Due to the demerits of rigid FFAs, the flexible FFAs (FFFAs) have recently gained popularity. The Flex Developer (FD) appliance (FDA) is one of the FFFA’s used as a class II corrector, but the literature available on its effectiveness is limited. Hence, the present study was undertaken to evaluate class II malocclusion correction with an FFFA. Materials and Methods: The present study was a prospective study done with a mean time span of 14 months in 32 patients in a growing age period having class II malocclusion, treated using the FDA. Results: The results showed statistically significant ( P =0.001) reduction in overjet (from 9.06 mm to 1.89 mm). Similarly the overbite showed statistically significant ( P =0.001) reduction (from 7.04 mm to 1.82 mm). The decrease in the ANB angle and WITS Appraisal showed statistically significant improvement. ( P =0.001). Conclusion: The FDA is efficient and effective in treating class II malocclusion with mandibular deficiency in growing individuals.
