Septic shock in oral cancer
Septic shock is a rare but life-threatening complication following oral oncosurgery. We report here a case of 42-year-old male patient operated for oral squamous cell carcinoma who got septic shock in the postoperative period. Patient was successfully resuscitated following Surviving Sepsis Campaign guideline 2021. Early recognition, dynamic fluid therapy, specific antimicrobial therapy, multiorgan assessment and continuous monitoring are the pillars of septic shock management. Septic shock is a frequent complication following abdominal surgeries; however, this case report emphasizes how a chronic health condition like cancer might increase the risk of septic shock in oral cancer patients.
