Development of a Multicultural-Based Islamic Religious Education Learning Model in Fostering Moderate Attitudes of Junior High School Students in Cilegon

Moderate attitudes are essential in a multicultural environment, especially in Cilegon, which is an area with ethnic and religious diversity. This study aims to develop a multicultural-based Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning model that can foster moderate attitudes in junior high school students in Cilegon, which focuses on the development of the PAI learning model, multicultural in fostering moderate attitudes, and junior high school students in Cilegon. The research method used is the development method (Research and Development/R&D), which involves the design, validation, and implementation stages of the learning model. The participants in this study were junior high school students with diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. This PAI learning model was developed through the integration of multicultural values into teaching materials and methods, including dialogue, collaboration, and introduction to different cultures. The results of the study showed that the application of this model significantly increased the moderate attitudes of students, as seen by the increase in understanding, tolerance, and the ability to empathize with diversity. Thus, this multicultural-based learning model is effective in forming moderate attitudes in students and is relevant for application in areas with a strong multicultural background Received: 2 April 2025 / Accepted: 14 June 2025 / Published: 05 July 2025
