The Relation between Student Engagement and Expected Grade

A significant number of institutions and scholars focus on the educational advancement of students. Investment in education is crucial for achieving strong economic growth and social prosperity, as well as for fostering technology and innovation. Student engagement is a critical factor in determining educational success. The correlation between expected grades and student engagement is notably significant for universities. Grades significantly influence students' graduation prospects and opportunities for academic success. This study seeks to enhance existing literature by investigating the different associations of engagement components—behavioural, emotional, and cognitive—with students' expected grades. A total of 196 students participated in the study. The study found that only one factor, behavioural engagement, significantly predicted students' expected grades. Multiple regression analysis indicated a significant difference between bachelor's and master's students, with bachelor's students expecting higher grades across various engagement measures. The correlation between expected grades and student engagement was not significantly influenced by gender or employment position. The authors analyse the practical implications of the findings.
