An Integrated Framework for Digital Twin Implementation in Fashion Design: Synergistic Value Creation Through Creative-Operational-Collaborative Dimensions
This article introduces a novel theory to implement the concept of digital twin in fashion design from traditional technology-driven toward integrated system thinking. It combines new generation of emerging technologies, including Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and big data analysis to foster creative designing, intelligent production, and cooperative innovation. This three-fold design optimizes the overall fashion value chain beyond traditional boundaries between the physical and digital. It is from our analysis that there arise emergent trends in utilizing digital twins, wherein the dominant mechanisms that enable transformative innovation in fashion design processes are elucidated. Typical of the framework are: (1) dynamic concurrency of creative, operational, and collaborative processes facilitated by distributed computing architectures; (2) predictive analysis for design optimization supported by AI and machine learning algorithms; and (3) strategic synthesis of sustainability principles supplemented by IoT-based tracking of resources. This work contributes to design theory by establishing a new paradigm in conceptualizing digital twin applications while being practical in bringing next-generation design systems to realization. Results indicate that successful digital transformation relies on the integration of these three dimensions, offering innovation and sustainable development opportunities.
