Bioethics and Organ Transplantation: Balancing Medical Innovation and Human Justice
Bioethics plays a fundamental role in the development and regulation of organ transplantation, addressing ethical dilemmas related to the procurement, allocation, and access to available organs. This article analyzes the main bioethical principles involved in organ transplantation, such as autonomy, justice, beneficence, and nonmaleficence, as well as the ethical challenges that arise in living and postmortem donation. It also examines controversial issues, such as the illegal organ trade, informed consent, and equity in global organ distribution. It concludes that bioethics is essential to ensuring fair and transparent transplant practices, promoting a balance between medical advancement and respect for human rights.
