A new genus of the subfamily limnophilinae (Diptera: Limoniidae) with unspurred tibiae from Japan
A new limonophiline genus with unspurred tibiae, Acentrolimnophila gen. nov. and the one new species, A. nipponica sp. nov., are described from the Palaearctic Region of Japan, with images of the habitus, wings, and terminalia. The assignment of the new genus to the subfamily Limnophilinae is justified. A key to genera of Limnophilinae with unspurred tibiae and morphological comparisons of the new genus with closely related genera are provided. • ●A new species of the new limnophiline genus, Acentrolimnophila nipponica gen. et sp. nov. is described from the Palaearctic Region of Japan, with detailed images. • ●The assignment of the new genus to the Limnophilinae is justified, despite its absence of the tibial spurs, which is unusual characteristic within the subfamily. • ●Morphological comparisons with closely related genera are presented.
