Advancements in Lithium Manganese Iron Phosphate as a High-Performance Cathode Material for Lithium-Ion Batteries

Lithium manganese iron phosphate (LiMn1–xFexPO4, LMFP) is a promising cathode material for lithium-ion batteries, exhibiting high theoretical energy density, excellent low-temperature performance, long cycle life, safety, and low cost. These advantages, combined with its broad application prospects and expanding market, are driving rapid industrialization. Based on an analysis of the structural characteristics and electrochemical mechanisms of LMFP, this paper comprehensively reviews recent research achievements in its preparation methods and strategies for improving electrochemical performance. To address the application bottlenecks caused by poor electrical conductivity, Mn dissolution, and dual-voltage platforms in LMFP materials, comprehensive efforts are required, including refining the synthesis process, optimizing the Fe/Mn ratio, conducting structural design, and selecting appropriate modification measures. Finally, the future development trends and directions of LMFP are explored, aiming to provide a valuable reference for the research and application of LMFP cathode materials and the broader field of lithium-ion batteries.
