Can a baffle improve the efficiency of crimped ribbon flame arrestor: A case study
Abstract Tests were performed to determine if a baffle would improve the efficiency of a crimped ribbon flame arrestor in a circular tube (150 mm inner diameter) with a flammable ethylene‐oxygen‐air mixture. The pressure drops and flameproof velocity of a crimped ribbon flame arrestor with and without an expansion cavity baffle were measured. The results show that the flow resistance increases and the flameproof velocity decreases with a baffle. An expansion cavity baffle therefore fails to improve the efficiency of a crimped ribbon flame arrestor.
