Growth and Yield of Potato (Solanum Tuberosum L.) As Influenced By Planting Depth and Variety in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria
The objective of this paper was to evaluate the growth and yield of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) as influenced by planting depth and variety in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria using appropriate standard procedures. A randomized complete block design with 8 treatment combinations replicated three times was used. Parameters assessed included plant height, leaf area, stem girth, tuber count, and yield. Significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) were observed for leaf area, tuber count, and yield, with Marabel and 7 cm planting depth consistently performing better. Marabel yielded 85,700 kg/ha, while 7 cm in depth achieved 72,375 kg/ha. These results suggest Marabel and 7 cm planting depth as optimal choices for cultivation in the Jos Plateau, Nigeria.
