Expression of Concern for: “Promoting Health through Transformative Innovation Policies and Emerging Technologies”

Mission-oriented strategies are gaining recognition as powerful means to drive innovation towards improved health outcomes. To build a robust evidence base for these policies, it is crucial to leverage new data sources, analytical methods, and indicators. The study focuses on the UK government’s Grand Challenge, aiming to revolutionize chronic disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment by 2030 using data, AI, and innovation. By examining projects combining AI and chronic disease keywords, I uncover a growing involvement of medical researchers and interdisciplinary collaborations. These projects demonstrate a commitment to applied outputs, signaling high-impact opportunities at the convergence of fields. Through a hierarchical topic model analysis, I observe a prevailing influence of computer scientists as AI-related topics dominate the landscape. My findings underscore the significance of open data sources and data science methods in generating indicators for research and innovation policies. These indicators provide valuable insights for effectively deploying emerging technologies and driving positive health outcomes in society.
