Universal Modeling Methods of Induction Machines to Study the Influence of Rotor Existence on Terminal Overvoltages During Inverter-Fed Operation

This study introduces a comprehensive approach to evaluating the influence of the rotor in induction machines on motor terminal overvoltages in inverter-fed operations. To facilitate this analysis, precise grey-box models have been developed for induction machines both with and without rotors. The accuracy of these models is validated by impedance spectrum comparisons between simulated and experimental data, demonstrating a maximum relative error of less than 5% within a frequency range of up to 5MHz. Subsequently, a system model incorporating these refined induction machine models along with cable models is employed to investigate the overvoltage phenomenon at the motor terminals. The findings indicate that the presence of the rotor has a negligible impact on terminal overvoltages in induction machines.
