Analysis of the Impact of Multi-Sector Unbalanced Torque Distribution on Electromagnetic Vibration and Noise in In-Wheel Motors
The multi-sector topology of in-wheel motors (IWMs) enhances the fault-tolerant ability by enabling independent torque control of each sub-motor while simultaneously introducing electromagnetic (EM) noise challenges due to unbalanced torque distribution (UTD). This paper focuses on a 48-slot/32-pole IWM with four sectors and proposes an analytical model to analyze EM force harmonics caused by UTD. The generation mechanism of sideband force harmonics caused by UTD is explained, and the main contributed force harmonics are determined. Based on the Fourier-based vibration model, the contributions of force harmonics to accelerations are analyzed. The modal test and vibration measurement are conducted for verification.
