Modelling and Measurement of Voltage Stress in Inverter-Fed Stator Phase Windings
Accurate prediction of the high-frequency behaviour of inverter-fed stator windings is essential for the assessment of voltage distribution and insulation stress. Numerous winding models have been proposed to achieve this, but their ability to capture the harmonic content of steep-edge inverter voltages varies considerably, with only a subset accounting for these effects. This paper presents a high-frequency model of the single-phase stator winding, taking into account the frequency-dependent resistive and inductive parameters. These parameters are estimated using a 2D finite element numerical method. The proposed model allows the evaluation of the phase winding impedance and uses a model reduction technique to estimate the voltage distribution across each coil and the individual turns within the coils. Its effectiveness is validated by experimental measurements on the phase winding of a synchronous reluctance machine.
