Concept for the production of perforated and endless paper-based slot insulation for use in rail-bound traction drives

In the manufacturing of electric motors, the stator is the most expensive component. For this reason, it is very interesting in terms of automation and offers various possibilities for increasing production efficiency. Particularly in the case of large traction drives used in locomotives or high-speed trains, the number of units produced is too small for rigid full automation in classic processing to be worthwhile. Nevertheless, this process step also offers potential. One approach is to reduce the number of individual components to be assembled by using an alternative slot insulation concept. Only one pre-formed and pre-perforated insulation mat, which covers all the slots, is to be produced, robotically assembled, and fitted with a cover slide after coil assembly. The focus is on an inserted perforation, which retracts during coil assembly and makes the cover slide assembly possible by folding both edges before cover joining.
