Electromagnetic – Mechanical Comparative Analysis of Rare-Earth Free Traction PMASynRM with Different Barrier Shapes

This paper proposes a method for the electromagnetic and mechanical comparison of rare-earth free traction permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance machines (PMASynRMs). A new metric of sensitivity analysis (SA) called generalized star-based sampling integrated variogram analysis of response surfaces (gSTAR-IVARS) is applied to a parameterized rotor topology whose indices are compared to traditional correlation coefficients (CCs) used in global SA. Results indicate that parameter variations that favor electromagnetic performance tend to oppose mechanical performance, and that SA indices can identify important parameters overlooked by traditional CCs.
