Comparative Evaluation of Cooling Methods and Their Combinations in Electric Motors
Efficient cooling is important for electric motors to maintain optimal performance and thermal management, especially in electric vehicles (EVs). This paper investigates the effectiveness of seven cooling methods individually and in combination, to identify the most effective strategy. The seven cooling methods are ventilation, housing water jackets, shaft spiral groves, wet rotor spray, rotor water jackets, and slot water jackets. The analysis is performed on an induction motor (IM) similar to the one used in Tesla Model S. Results provide valuable insights to EV manufacturers into optimizing the thermal management of electric motors by identifying the most effective individual and combined cooling strategies.
