Reduction of Torque Ripples in Double Stator Wound Field Flux Switching Motor by Rotor Shaping and Tilting of Stator Magnetic Axis
Double stator wound field flux switching motor (DSWFFSM) has shown potential as a suitable non-permanent magnet (PM) motor alternative to the PM motor in electric vehicles (EVs) traction. This is due to its ability to utilize dormant inner space in the single stator flux switching motor (FSM) to compensate for torque drop penalty due to PMs elimination. However, DSWFFSM is prone to harmonics and ripples because of its double salient structure; hence, needs improvement. In this paper, torque ripple and average torque of DSWFFSM are improved by rotor shaping and tilting of the stator magnetic axis. The results show that that by rotor shaping and tilting stator magnetic axis that the torque of 12/10 and 12/13 poles DSWFFSM are improved by 7.86% and 17.30% respectively, while their torque ripples are reduced by 77.03% and 69.61% for the 12/10 and 12/13 poles respectively.
