Multiphase FSCWs with Flux Barrier Stator – A Novel Solution for High Torque Density Applications
The new stator configuration with magnetic flux-barriers in the stator tooth region represents an efficient method for reducing the sub-harmonics of electric machines with FSCW. Additionally, the use of flux-barriers increases the amplitude of the working harmonic, resulting in higher torque compared to the conventional stators. This paper employs this technique for a 11-phase single-layer FSCWs, providing efficient solutions for a wide range of rotor topologies with different number of pole-pairs. Beyond offering higher torque density, the examined machines also exhibits minimal torque ripples for all pole-pair number configurations.
