Coordinated Control of a Cluster of Advanced Microgrids and Fast Charging Stations in Islanded Mode
Despite their intermittent nature and limited inertia, renewable-based distributed energy resources (DERs) offer valuable advantages by diversifying the energy matrix, reducing line power losses, and enhancing grid resilience by islanded operation. The existing literature shows that conventional actuator control methods based on autonomous power electronics are often limited in their effectiveness in managing a cluster of advanced microgrids (MGs) and fast charging stations (FCSs). This paper proposes a coordinated control strategy for FCSs equipped with battery energy storage systems (BESS) within advanced MGs in a cluster configuration. The proposed method is designed to maintain stable grid operation in islanded scenarios. The simulation results show that the proposed method simultaneously manages FCSs and advanced MGs, ensuring balanced energy distribution between FCSs and the MGs.
