Effect of Permanent Magnet Shape in High-Speed Rotor on the Performance of a Magnetic Gear
In this paper, radial flux type co-axial magnetic gears (MG) with different shapes of permanent magnets (PM) on the high speed rotor are compared to investigate the effect of PM shape on the performance of MG. The MGs are modelled and simulated by finite element method. To ensure a fair comparison genetic algorithm based optimisation is performed. The optimised MGs are compared based on their torque capability, efficiency, harmonic contents in the air-gap flux density and permanent magnet utilisation. The optimised designs are justified by analysing the air-gap flux density distribution.
