PMSM Modelling considering Magnetic Saturation, Spatial Harmonics, and Interturn Short-Circuit Faults

This paper presents a model for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines that accounts for magnetic (cross-) saturation, spatial harmonics, zero-sequence components, and interturn short-circuit faults. The voltage equations for the faulty state are linked to the relations between currents, flux-linkages, and rotor position in Simulink using polynomials allowing for an accurate and fast simulation of the faulty machine assuming a star-connection with floating neutral. The relations between currents and flux-linkages for the faulty states are directly deduced from static FE evaluations on the healthy machine by neglecting the impact of the exact location of the faulty turns inside the slot and the impact of the fault on the magnetic saturation. Finally, the proposed model is validated thanks to time-stepping finite-element simulation and shows a very good accuracy for both d-, q-axis and fault currents.
