First observation of full radial profile of Zeff using a high-performance visible spectrometer in EAST tokamak with full tungsten divertors
Abstract The effective ion charge, Z eff , is a critical parameter in quantifying the impurity content and collisionality, and studying neutron yield and impurity transport in magnetically confined fusion plasmas. In order to obtain a full radial Z eff profile in the EAST tokamak, a visible spectrometer system with endscope type optics has been newly developed. A vertical profile of visible bremsstrahlung continuum is observed at 597.8±1.0 nm with well-focused fiber images in a typical L-mode discharge. A local emissivity profile of the visible bremsstrahlung is analyzed using Abel inversion algorithm. The Z eff radial profile is thus obtained for the first time in the EAST experiment.
